Can someone help this clueless semi-retired Fil-Am find lumber for his woodworking hobby? I'm looking for sun or kiln dried lumber sources for Narra,Yakal,Ipil hardwood. Rough or surfaced S4S,S2S lumber. Thanks
There are a lot of rough cut lumber along the highway going to Tagaytay. Other provincial furniture shops may also have them.
Torndown old houses is another good source. I don't know though were the stores that sell these are. I know they do exist though. You have to be creative with the nail holes but if the pieces are large enough you can get some nice clear pieces.

Thanks! I'd forgotten about those places along tagaytay.
Good advice about torndown houses for lumber supply. I've got a handheld stud/metal detector that I could probably put to good use.

The area around Dapitan and Laong Laan are famous for old wood. But even this supply is drying up. You may have to go to provincial areas to get a supply of old wood.
Oh yeah, check the ads in the Buy & Sell ads paper under Building Materials. I once found a supplier there who said they had a stockpile at FTI if I remember right. I never went but that's what he said.

I'll definitely look into all of those places. I have a friend who stopped by a roadside furniture shop along the road to Tagaytay and asked who his suppliers were. Apparently, they all get their supplies somewhere in Batangas. I'll inquire more as to where its specifically located and post it on this forum. Thanks fellas!
I'm curious to know if they themselves would be willing to sell a few pieces of raw wood to a hobby woodworker like myself. Getting from the supplier could be less expensive but then again maybe not with gas prices being what they are.
I pass there from time to time but if your friend could ask that would be great.

I've bought some small pieces of hardwood from a sash factory along Sumulong highway. They dismantle old houses and transform the old wood into sashes.

I can supply you with ipil-ipil and maybe yakal except narra. But only if you order in volume. we have to transport them from mindanao.

I think I know this place...Is it JEFZ? they make sash out of old recycled wood from old houses. Cheap and durable.

Even makers of pool tables are using woods from tordown old houses. Mostly they are using the long frame for stairs.
I got myself 4x2x10 in one of the lumber shops near our place and had it planed at the same place (they have thickness planer). I was surprised initially as they are more expensive that new lumber.
You could ask some Taxi Drivers. They know most of the Torn Down Houses Lumber depot around the metropolis.
