Hi,

Any body have any suggestions on a good bench grinder. I plan to use this for wire wheel duties.

Prices info will be much appreciated too.

Thanks ....

LYS Hardware quoted these :

Makita - 6" Bench Grinder
180W = 3,648

Makita - 8" Bench Grinder
540w = 5,940

Taiwan Made
PowerStar
8" Grinder - 1,800
6" Grinder - 1,300

Do you think 180 watts will cut it out and isn't under powered?

Sorry Jay I have two of them at home but I've not paid much attention to them. One if I remember right is a 6" and the other an 8" - not really sure about the power but I'd say they're in the low range. I bought both second hand. I mostly use them for sharpening drill bits and rough sharpening chisels which they do well enough.

I finally purchased the Taiwanese made Champion Branded 8" Bench Buffer ( 3,500 pesos) and 8" Bench Ginder ( 2,800 pesos) . So far so good as power is quite adequate at 1/2 HP.

just to bring up an old thread. i'm in the hunt also for a bench grinder. i need a little guidance prior to purchase.

- are grinding discs interchangeable between brands? if not, what brand is the most common in the philippine market?
- i'll be dealing with iron for grinding and buffing. what is the recommended watts/hp for this application?
- are brands relevant for this tool?

how much should i budget for this tool?

I have the Makita 6" bench grinder which is roughly the same price as the Champion 8 incher. If I were to choose just one I would go with the Champion 8" because of more power.

Makita 6"
