DIY USB fan

I have a eGreat Media Player. Although I don't have any problem with it, it gets really hot, especially when playing huge high def movies. I thought of attaching a small CPU fan at the side vents to significantly cool it down.

The NMT has two USB slots at the back. Is it possible to connect the CPU fan to a normal USB cable connector so I can just use USB as the power source. I understand these operate at 12 volts. I have a few USB cables that I can use for this experiment. But I'm not sure If its ok as I might damage the USB ports.

You could use a laptop cooler.

The cheapest way is to put your old electric fan on it.

I would not put just anything in my USB port, not an LED light or fan. Remember USB ports are primarily for DATA, not comfort.

Just put yourself in the position of the 'motherboard.' Would you like it if another high current burden is added ??

yeah. all you need is elecric fan! make sure side panels are not block as well.

i also have media player like this pero different model, basta gamit ko sya pang play nang movie/mp3 mainit nga talaga, and yes u can use the usb slot to wire a fan, alamin mo lang ung wiring nang usb may +5V dun and u just buy a 5v fan. or better bumili ka nalang sa cdr king nang mini usb fan nila para hassle free, around 100 lang un

careful with putting USB apparatus

remember that your PC power supply is limited
put too much load and your in for a screw

note: worse thing i saw was a USB fridge size of a canned soda
it will really screw not only your power supply but also your PC because of power flux

The maximum current the USB port can supply is 500mA. Any more than that, the computer will likely shut that USB port down (cut off the voltage).

my idea is for you to make a shelving unit to encase the NMT and below that your external hard drive...the side (either way) can be occupied by a 220volts brushless fan (you can put two fans if you like)..

please find a silent type fan coz mine is noisy...and for audio enthusiast like me, the sound coming from that fan is unacceptable.
