I have this problem especially in the bathroom. The grout turns yellow and even if I clean it with bathroom soap and muriatic acid, it doesn't help.

Thanks

What about Mr. Muscle cleaner, has anyone tried this? Is it really effective?

This may sound crazy but have you tried using rust converter? The phosphoric acid might do the grout some good. Just be sure to dilute it.

In some cases it would be easier to re-grout than to clean stained grout.

Thanks. but the problem is, after a few months, it gets somewhat yellowish again.

Someone told me to use hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush. Saturate the brush in a glass of the peroxide, then dip and scrub to clean the grout lines.

I haven't tried this yet but they say it really works.

I'll post my feedback after trying it.

I tried using hydrogen peroxide to clean the grout this weekend.

Well, some things just don't work as you expect it to be. :(

somebody also told me about the sealant. this looks like clear coat paint that you apply on cars. but i have to remove the existing grout and put a new one before applying the sealant.

i was just hoping that i could make the existing grout white again without removing and applying another one. but if there's no other way then that's what i'm going to do.

that's how i'm doing it as well (re-grout... madali lang naman...ata.) once i'm able to purchase the sealant and scheduled a weekend... baka gawin ko rin sa bathroom floor tiles' grout namin

para sa akin mas madaling mag-regrout pero matrabaho ang mag alis ng grout. :)

di pwedeng lihahin. Well actually pwede but the lower layers will be more or less the same color

The sealant as discussed in the previous thread should be MANDATORY, magagaling kasi mga ocntractors natin... . HINDI GINAGAMIT! it makes a world of difference in terms of maintaining the color

and if you dont put the sealant, the grout remains porous and is NOT water proof/tight

There is a sealant that is mixed in with the grout during the adding of water to make the mushy paste. I think i prefer this over the surface applicated sealant

Spray clorox and leave it overnight. You'll be surprise the next morning :)

I do the same with chlorox/zonox, sir

I also add some amount of joy a little water. Spray and let it stand for 30 mins, then lightly scrub the rest of the walls and floors with scotch brite.

After watering it down, i normally see the effect after another 30mins or when the walls have air dried.

just sharing...
another of my house chores :(

Have the same problem with my bathroom floor with white grout. I used ABC sealant which i tediously applied myself just to be sure that the instruction is followed:) also I used the latest abc grout which claims as having microban in it that reduces molds and stains. Bt sadly after a week(cleaned daily) all the grout turns yellowish, I thought it was just the stain from the water but its not. I tried cleaning it with everything I have in the house but sadly no effect:( Its just clean but still yellowish:confused: Im thinking of just replacing the grout with a colored one (light gray) or just using WHITE CEMENT together with the sealant. I noticed that the grout material is not really white enough compared to white cement. THis will be my next project once I have the time;) In fairness, the sealant really works in preventing molds, mildew and stains but sadly I think the quality of the grout(whiteness) is to be blamed.

The strongest chemical you can use is muriatic acid. If it doesn't work, nothing else will.

But be very careful when using it, and read the instructions well. Make sure the room is well ventilated, wear a mask & gloves. When rinsing, apply baking soda to neutralize it because it will rust your drain if you don't (if your drain is made of steel).

Hi! I just discovered the answer and solution to all our grout stain problems. I found a product called GROUT-AIDE MARKER which is actually a marker that covers grout stains while it kills mold and mildew. I bought this at True Value in Alabang Town Center. Since i tried it several months ago, my bathroom tiles looks clean and new everyday. You may want to check out their website, just search for Grout-aide marker. The markers come in different colors too if you have tile grout other than white. Glad to be of help.

Will it be a good surprise or a bad surprise?

So ABC Grout Sealer is no good as a sealer and/or ABC Grout is no good? Is there any good locally available sealant and/or grout?

Which works better -- ABC Grout Sealer applied to ABC Grout, or ABC Grout Waterproofing mixed with ABC Grout? Or equally ineffective at keeping white grout white?

Anyone had long term experience with this Grout-Aide? Is it a miracle cure, paint once, white forever? Or will the paint eventually become dirty again, requiring repainting over, so that if you repaint regularly, there will be layer upon layer of this paint?
