Different kinds of Paints

Latex, QDE, Epoxy Primer, Acrylic. Lacquer etc.. Whats the difference between these? :confused:

Latex --used for concrete usually they apply flat latex first, then the final woul either be semi gloss or gloss latex 2-3 coating depends on how you want your color..

QDE -- (quick drying enamel) used as an all around but very suitable for its glossy finish on steels can be used on wood and concrete as long as they got a first coating of flat latex.

Epoxy Primer -- they are primers with catalyst or hardeners used as a primary primer for steels which are often exposed to elements then coated final with a QDE..

Acrylic -- Lacquer etc maybe some of the guys here can answer as i dont deal with this paints much... hope my answer was correct at some point :p

Anyone know where it is possible to buy Emulsion Paint in the Philippines? Something like Dulux.

Dulux have semi-gloss and a finish called silk which is flat but dirt resistant.
Dutchboy, Boysen and Davies do not have this style

The Shiny Latex here makes a very poor atmosphere in a roof with any sort of lighting.

Thanks for the info boybakal. I was wondering why latex was used on a kitchen cabinet I was DIYing. So i went ahead and stripped it off before painting it over with QDE.

Now, is it possible to put a clear topcoat on QDE? It is glossy at it is but I want to protect it further. Since moisture and mold can buildup in a kitchen, what can I use to protect paint?

sir Freeman as i recall you cant use topcoats on an enamel at it will just cook the paint or something.. if you have used a lacquer based paints then you can topcoat it.. im really no expert but you can try it..
