Sound Proofing A Room

Greetings to the group.
I am in need of suggestions on how to soundproof a room.
What materials should I use?
Where can I get them?
Are there any(cheaper) alternatives to those high-end soundproofing materials that they use inside sound booths and music studios?:confused:

i have some friends who make use of apple or egg trays. these are the ones made of cardborad/paper. not the plastic one.

it may not look good only after installation. but one of my friends is so artistic that it look that bad for my taste :)

well... it's a trade off between cost and looks.
