mga sirs,,, ano pong most recommended na ginagamit sa kesame... gypsum board, hardiflex, marine plywood. dapat po yung hindi nakaka apektado sa health... kasi po may nabasa ako na asbestos content is not good for health...

plywood=the conventional

hardiflex=difficult to cut odd shapes, cutter cuts only in straight lines,
hindi binubukbok or nasisira ng water seepage..pero mabigat ikabit...pang exterior and soffit lang ideally (soffit=yung kisame sa lampas na bubong)...me jigsaw blades carbide tipped for fibercement boards but not locally available (bosch)

pvc=aesthetically pleasing, madaming variety, wood designs mostly, you need a sliding miter saw here..or just a jigsaw..or a table saw to cut panels...but since the frame is done, you cant use this and quite expensive...relatively stable and wont rot.

hardwood=available in T&G, expensive...needs skilled carpenter

btw..regarding asbestos, its fire retardant and sound proofing material..as long as you wear OSHA specified masks like 3M then you wont get asbestosis (and eventual lung damage).

hardiflex: because of its weight, pwede rin mag sag (lumobo) ng konti yung panels especially if nailing-in procedures is not done right. At times, makikita yung sags only after painting.

One advantage though in painting, if bare cement walls, you'll only have to use one type of paint (latex) to prime both the walls & ceilings...

newbie po here...ask ko lng po sna kung ung class A na plywood kelangan pa masilyahan before lagyan ng paint or khit di na po ok lng paint na?tia

id prefer to apply putty to any plywood i will use for ceiling installation...i wanted the ceiling smooth.

class A ply still has pores in it and absorbed paints differently..so masilyahan mo na sa ibaba pa lang.

I don't think the class of plywood would matter much, it really depends on what paint you want for your ply..if your going for duco finish then you have to put putty on every inch of, if straight enamel then no need. Just fill any defects/ connections with putty.

If I were to do my plywood kisame again I would want to have some clearance between each cut when installed. This will allow for wood movement para wag lumobo sa joints kasi dikit dikit. . I think they call it V-Cut if I am not mistaken.

but does it mean na even if we use class C plywood on our ceiling, still that wud be ok for as long as we put masilya on not so good surface of it? but plywood's classes varies only on their finishing (tama po ba?) i mean the surface of class A is smoother compared to other class :confused: sorry, totally clueless po ako..

with my experience with plywood locally, there are only a few brands i know who sells class A plywood and specifically the marine plywood.they are the sta clara, uniplywood and the latest to join is the Apo (makers of gi sheets and engineered flooring etc etc)...

most if not all locally sold plywood in your neighborhood small hardware stores are of the class c type.

more importantly, class A differs from the rest in two points...1. flatness and 2..irregularities and surface imperfections...

another point is that...those quality brands i mentioned uses quality adhesives especially tailored for marine plywood...

sta clara for one boasts of their products being used in boatbuilding industries.

If the same rules apply here as it is in other countries, the class usually denotes the quality of the veneer that is placed on the faces of the ply. I noticed on the marine ply that i always use, which is Uniwood, there are markings which denote C/D which when you look at the face there is one face which is better looking than the other. Class A plywood i think is also called furniture grade plywood because the face veneer are made up of exotic wood species. These cost around P2,500 to above P5,000 a sheet.

So with those prices it is not advisable to use the higher grades of ply just for ceiling use. The regular plywood available at the hardware which have face grades of C/D are more than adequate specially since your going to paint them anyway. Just touch up the undesirable parts (if any) with masilya.

sirs, using an ordinary plywood for ceiling and/or divider...do we need to put masilya pa po ba on the whole surface (one side of it) or even just the not so smooth/defective parts nlng po?

for the purpose of putting paints on it nmn po.may mga kelangan p po b muna gawin sa plywood before lagyan ng paint?

kung tipid mode eh pwede na siguro yung ordinary plywood.

kelangan kasi i primer before pinturahan yan..kasi kung wala primer eh sisipsipin ng sisipsipin ng plywood yung paint (example: quick dry enamel paint)

kung enamel ang gagamitin nyong final finish eh "flat wall enamel" ang primer...one coat lang with brush or roller..buy the cheapest roller para pede na itapon after...kasi you need to wait for at least 24 hours before recoat...mga two coats ok na yun..so all in all three coats pati yung primer...for an estimate, one plywood will need 1/2 quart ng paint.

nowadays i use a primer made by Ace paints available sa ace hardware..."Stain Halt" primer good for any type of paint..mejo mahal lang at 1,200p per gallon...but with this primer i can use a quick drying non toxic acrylic paints...sa enamel kasi kahit 1 week di pa nawawala yung amoy ng paint...

pag divider eh the more na dapat me primer..kung ordinary ply eh madami surface imperfections yan kaya you use a glazing putty..inaaply yan ng paleta...tapos liha to death...then apply your final finish...i dont use a glazxing putty nowadays but using now acrylic putty sold in any DIY shops like handyman...135 pesos yata per 1/2 quart..meron na sha spatula for application...liha din after then your final finish (pag sinabi finish..top coat ng primer)

Yup there are several suppliers here, usually the veneer suppliers also sell plywood backed veneer.

wow thanks for the detailed instruction abt ceiling sir...pwede po bang abusuhin ko n po kyo :confused: hehe ask ko lang po ung abt sa divider...if i will use ordinary plywood, primer po b muna before glazing putty then final finish? pwede po bng lagyan n agad ng glazing putty right after matuyo ung primer or it needs an overnight or 2-3days pra sumipsip ng husto ung primer before we put putty?

other option po for divider, aside from ordinary plywood anu po ung ibang mas ok n gamitin which is no need for "putty" or anything but paint or pwede rin po bang varnish na dark color?

For divider at habol mo yun wood finish kailangan mo gumamit ng plywood.

Pero kung paint finish lang sa divider mag fiber cement board (hardiflex or flexboard) ka na lang. You can use studs & tracks as framing and 4.5mm fiber cement board. For paint finish just use latex based paint.

With regards to hardiflex & plywood i noticed parang mas mainit yng hardiflex. Yng sala namin hardiflex was used sa ceiling. While our bedroom marine plywood was used.

They have tha same ceiling height, same clearance meaning the distance between the roof and the ceiling. But during the afternoon sobrang init yng sala namin. You can really feel the heat coming from the ceiling.

Note both the sala and the bedroom wala nilagay na heat insulator sa space between the ceiling and the roof

Hi Im new to this forum
Just a suggestion to everyone planning, building or repairing their simple house ceiling. Save up for your ceiling insulation dont skip this, just to save:(. If I remeber when me and my wife started our marriage we only live to my Bienan house we occupied one of the room there na napaka init grabe. I decided na gumapang don sa kisame
to put an insulation ang laki ng ginhawa after that.Kaya when we had our house, doon na lumipat Bienan ko sa room namin dati:)

And I used hardiflex yung 1/4 in size heavy got talaga isang size palang dati e, inside and out the house, walang bukbok easy to paint pa.
