Need help mga bros.

my six year old 0.5 HP air compressor needed oil change but it has got no user manual to consult for oil specifications.

its a direct drive one mainly used to drive the nailer. i drained the oil and let it stood for awhile (now three days) and you can see at the bottom of the canister a layer of "dirt"..i wonder if this "old" oil on top that layer can still be poured back again and just add some new one..specifications i dont know..SAE 20 ba or SAE 40.

thanks in advance.

I'm no expert Bro but I had my compressor serviced before and along with it came a plastic bottle of compressor specific oil. The brand is Puma. You should be able to get it from an industrial supply.

thanks for the tip.

i decanted the clean oil back to the motor and added some 3 in 1 oil with a rating of SAE 20 i bought from handyman..99 pesos per 100 ml and man..it has this sweet smell. il take a photo next time.

the motor? hmmm..it whirrs fine but scared during the initial run..hehe

and then it stopped!

of course,it hit the 80 psi.my mark.

:p

V why did you not change all the oil to new? . Shell sells SAE 20 in one liter plastic containers. Probably this will be good for 2 oil changes.

Just wondering.

jay,

read your comment just now..

i dont know..perhaps i think the old oil is still ok...

i havent used the compressor yet after that initial run.

the capacity of the oil tank fillng that glass gauge is approx 100ml..so a liter of that SAE 20 shell will be good for 10 exhanges.

now i am scared..ok will replace it entirely with a fresh one.

i will use the old oil to lubricate my tools instead.

thanks
