i had requested my previous post to be deleted because of wrong pic size.
i cant remember what i wrote ... ehehhe.. well not everything
its a Japanese style console table. I saw one on the net and saw Violane's one from another forum i think that was used as a bench instead
http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3500/pic100711001.jpg
to put it simply the jig didnt work coz i had the runners too high and the pplunge lock isnt working!
so i had it chop choped. I needed the bandsaw for gettig it thickened-less uptill the point wehre the dovetail grooves vanish

I really like your wood stands... actually looks like the back of a pick up... :p... hopefully it doesnt scratch the wood. :p:p

my next challenge is how to attach the legs and to make it triangularish... hmm tapering before joining the panels is going to be hard.... since joining it would produc a non square sides...
tapering after wont do coz my taper jig isnt big enough and i cant mske a big enough one to be of practical use.
i could dowel them after initial glue setting to make sure pressure is consistent...
How wide are you going to make your console table?
beebeenator
07-13-2010, 10:42 AM
thats about as wide as i would dare to make. but my wife wants it wider... i am scratching my head on how to do that. with solid wood anyways
i might "cheat" but i havent decided how to go about it

nice thicknesser sled...
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5002/pic100712002.jpg
do it in segments Bee, do another board like what you just made and glue them together...
beebeenator
07-13-2010, 01:15 PM
pagod na ako hahaha. actually i just need a 2 x 2 on either side lang naman to make it at the proper width
my attention span is very short hence i always do shortcuts to my detriment

i did what timber suggested.... i guess i either use a belt sander after or the no4 plane..... i am trying to avoid either of the two :)
by the way its not a sled... well it could be but i placed a stop underneath to keep it from becoming a sled for now.

Ben, I believe its time for you to make a taper jig for the ts (plans readily available online for free). you don't need to taper the whole leg, taper it just before the joint so it stays square. or you can keep the joint area square and taper the outer part till the top, that way you still have a square joint but you must make the joint before tapering the outer portion. otherwise it would be difficult to malke the joint imo...

i did something like that for practice. I have a taper jig (use it as a jointer jig too )
did a camfer on the outer edges. will post pic tomorrow. Just tired and lazy in doing the legs again. Again because i used what was supposed to be leg parts for the widening of the board

i guesss one leg a day is the way to go since nakakapagod mag buhat nung treads

chamfered with a circular saw.
leveling this is a pain since i cant run through the thicknesser.. hence a grit 60 sand paper is in the shopping list.. i think :)

very nice work Bee, may I suggest you split the tenons to two, that way expansion will give it less tendency to crack. usually done for tenons 6" or more like breadboards...

crap... nakasalpak na... sealing nalang to keep its moisture content stable. I will keep that in mind for future builds.
The narras are old... so iam HOPING the moisture content wont fluctuate too much anymore.
All the wood inside our house contract due to the very low humidity of the house. I dont know why the RH in our house is very far from the outside.
So far non of the stuff i made moved. Well only one of em is a year old

taking in info from the boysen seminar. I may use this sealer. 30 minutes to dry. The ace hardware sealer takes 4 - 8 hours. but its two parts. Will see what fancies me at the process
I havent attached the taper yet. Will post pics later in the morning.

lots of sanding ahead, but will leave it there for now to contemplate on the stain

That's a good one Ben!
Which stain color to match it Bee? The doors or the floor?
beebeenator
07-19-2010, 07:11 PM
Thanks Jarod.
its not as planed as it seems so madaming habol with sand paper.
Jay
will have to match it with the doors. doesnt have to be perfect... just close.. I might just use konig again since i got used to mixing it to match that particular color. And i may get lazy on the hudson poly sealer.... finishing isnt my favorite part... assembly is :)

nice project bee.
i am rooting to just maintain the natural color of the wood..
but like Jay's point, mejo hawig kasi sa color tone ng flooring...
in which case, i might brave myself to apply a very thin coat of red mahogany stain.
whichever suits you bro..

hi Doc
i am torn nga eh... I am always a pro natural look kinda guy. But color coordinating furnitures in the house takes precedence
oh there are a great deal of putty filler sa counter top. due to cross graining and chipping. so a thin layer may not be possible to hide those putties.
ill make "swatches" later for my wife to decide. :)
You are producing works fast! I wish i had your speed.
Hehe sayang naman yung wood na ginamit mo kung dark stain, narra yan diba?
beebeenator
07-19-2010, 08:09 PM
yup narra
oo nga eh, iam torn torn torn ladeeedaadeedaa. I guess i can zar tung oil the thing and if the swmbo doesnt like.. then red mahogany then if she doesnt like still... scrub down then dark stain! and if she doesnt like it still... yari na ako ahhahahaha
fast!? really heheh thanks. Actually naka pacing pa nga ito eh tapos may mga idle days in between. I didnt want to rush this one, however looking at my first post, 7/12... now is 7/19 one week lang... it does seem fast... weird.

very very nice and elegant Ben, you wife should be happy enought to make the 4100 accessible soon... :)
actually if you are willing to risk, you can bleach it instead of staining or bleach and stain so you can get a more even finish... TRY IT ON SCRAP muna ha?
beebeenator
07-20-2010, 09:59 PM
Thanks Timber :)
I did a swatch of red mahogany, walnut, dark matching stain with the doors, and sadolin teak hardwood oil. Dark matching stain with the doors is wanted so no bleaching (no explosions for the semi alzheimer wood worker)
i did contemplate on bleaching for ease. but like the long foyer bench i did i would like a heavy stain but with a subtle shade gradient so it wont look so artificial.
