Those filters are available locally. I tried coffee filters before and it doesn't work. Paint even when heavily thinned is still too thick to pass thru those.

Probably not very if you already have a caliper, since the tail can measure depth.

It could be justified though on basis of being more compact, less awkward, especially if you have a lot of depths to measure.
