Tool Sharpening Shops

Hey Everyone!

Here are a couple questions for you: Where is your go-to place to get your tools (e.g. drill bits, plane irons, chisels, saws, other blades) sharpened?

Since I'm staying in Pasig along Ortigas Ave near Cainta, it seems that there are a lot of places I could possibly go (and haven't tried yet). I'd just like to know your experiences with sharpening tools outside of your own workshops, and if you'd recommend any shops in particular, especially if you're in the Pasig/Ortigas/Cainta area.

I want to know where to go in the meantime, before I eventually set up my own sharpening system at home, which will grow hand in hand with my collection.

More tools means more maintenance. Better maintenance means better tool performance, better quality work and longer tool life span.

as for me...i can only recommend you to Hortaleza for sharpening scissors and nippers and some other manicurists tools...yes they can really sharpen all that was mentioned but in woodworking it's somehow different due to the bevel angle.

this is the reason why i still trust my cheap plastic protractor, magnifying lens, a plexiglass, sandpaper (600 and 1200grit) and my patience to hone them...if you have the honing guide then its a breeze perhaps to maintain the bevel angle..ask timber;)

for jigsaw blades, when they are dull..i throw them..(or keep them to make someting out of it like a marking gauge)

for handsaws....i gave them to relatives...honestly i do not have the patience to repair a dull handsaw teeth...i tried at least before and without a sawset, i screwed...turning it into something like an ice saw!

i have a teflon coated black sandvik for general carpentry bought in 1998 and the teeth are still sharp as before..my secret?i dont lend it to just anyone..hehehehe..i have a spare for them to borrow.:p
